As the largest retail centre in the region, and famous for the Tree of Knoweldge, Council is planning to launch the Christmas season in Barcadline this year with a theme centred around trees and a Christmas competition to shop local.  From mid-November, assisting businesses with the installation of the pallet trees created by Barcaldine Men's Shed and the start of the 12 days of Christmas Shop Local competition. The competiton is open to everyone who spends $20 or more in a participating store.  After purchasing, they scan the QR code and they enter for a chance to win one of the daily $100 prizes and a further chance to win the mega draw of $2000 worth of Christmas gifts.  The first draw of the competition will take place on Friday 1st December during the Christmas Light event at the Australian Workers Heritage Centre.  Council will also provide  the community with a  designated "Santa's Castle" where they can visit Santa on Saturdays in December to have their photo taken with Santa and also have their locally bought gifts wrapped by local sporting groups for a gold coin donation.
