Waste Facilities in Barcaldine Region

Barcaldine:  Waste Transfer Station Upgrade

Location:  Yellowjack Rd, Barcaldine.

Barcaldine Regional Council advises residents that the right-side entrance area of the Waste Transfer Station is partially closed while improvement works are underway.

These works form part of a project to upgrade the Waste Transfer Station, improving safety, cleanliness and efficiency for the community.

Phase 1 – Current Works

Council crews are currently working to improve the right-hand operational area of the site, including:

• Levelling the ground to remove standing water and puddles

• Improving drainage and site access

• Installing signage and traffic guidance

• Preparing the area for improved waste separation

⚠️ Important during Phase 1

  • Only the left-hand side of the site is currently accessible

  • The right-hand side is closed while construction works are underway

  • Residents are asked to follow all temporary signage and staff directions when using the facility

  • The facility remains open 24/7

  • Dedicated areas for materials such as: cardboad (folded), Motor Oil, Car Batteries, Furniture, Tyres, White Goods, Metals (including tin roof), Pallets, Construction & Demolition Waste, Green Waste, Dirt, and General Waste.

Phase 2 – Upcoming Improvements (from June)

Further upgrades will take place in the coming months, including:

• Improved waste separation at the source
• Designated areas for different materials and recyclables

These improvements aim to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill and allow valuable resources to be recovered rather than disposed of.

Council will continue to provide updates over the coming months, including community information and guidance on how to correctly sort waste under the new system.

Reminder: The burning of any type of waste is strictly prohibited. Offenders may receive fines of up to $2 million.

Alpha Refuse Disposal Site

  • Persons using the Alpha refuse disposal sites are asked to deposit rubbish over the tip face.

  • The dumping of general household rubbish at the industrial dump site is not permitted.

  • All general garbage, papers, metals, car bodies, trees and tyres should be dumped in the appropriate site.

Jericho Refuse Disposal Site

  • Persons using the Jericho refuse disposal sites are asked to deposit rubbish over the tip face.

  • The dumping of general household rubbish at the industrial dump site of not permitted.

  • All general garbage, papers, metals, car bodies, trees and tyres should be dumped in the appropriate site.

Aramac Refuse Disposal Site

  • Open to public unless wet.

Muttaburra Refuse Disposal Site

  • Open to public unless wet.
