Key Changes to Community Grants Program
Several updates have been made to Barcaldine Regional Council's Community Grants program to improve accessibility, transparency and equity and value for the community.
For any Community Grants above the value of $1500.00 will now be required to submit an application for funding in the Quarterly Community Grants Program.
Why move to a quarterly community grants program?
1. Improved Planning and Fair Access
With scheduled rounds throughout the year, community groups have greater clarity on when to apply, allowing them to plan projects in advance. This also ensures that all applicants have equal access to funding opportunities and a fair, consistent review process.
2. Faster Decision-Making
By assessing applications in clearly defined rounds, Council can streamline internal processes, reduce delays, and notify applicants more efficiently. This helps organisations get started on their projects sooner.
3. Encourages Strategic, High-Quality Applications
Quarterly rounds allow applicants to take more time to prepare applications, aligning with strategic goals and community needs.
4. Greater Transparency and Accountability
A structured grant calendar supports better tracking, reporting, and evaluation of how community funds are allocated improving transparency and governance.
5. Supports Equity and Budget Distribution
Spreading funding opportunities across the year helps ensure funding is more evenly distributed, avoiding a “first in, best dressed” situation and making sure that groups applying later in the year aren’t disadvantaged.
6. Builds Grant Readiness in the Community
Regular rounds create predictable opportunities for capacity building — helping smaller or emerging groups learn the application process and develop stronger proposals over time.
- Applications must be submitted on the Community Grants Program Application Form.(PDF, 150KB)
- An interim round is available for the introductory year for projects that are held from 1 July through to 10 September 2025.
- Community Grants Program will now run four times a year.
