The Barcaldine region currently operates two landfill sites.
The current landfill has served the community for many years and is now approaching the end of its operational life.
To protect valuable landfill space, Council is asking residents and businesses to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill by sorting recyclable and reusable materials before disposal.
Every load sorted before arriving at the Waste Transfer Station helps extend landfill life and recover valuable resources.
A new engineered landfill has been constructed and will progressively become the region's primary landfill facility.
This modern facility will operate alongside the new BORRC and support a more sustainable approach to waste management.
Barcaldine Regional Council advises residents that the right-side entrance area of the Waste Transfer Station is partially closed while improvement works are underway.
These works form part of a project to upgrade the Waste Transfer Station, improving safety, cleanliness and efficiency for the community.
Only the left-hand side of the site is currently accessible

Residents are asked to follow all temporary signage when using the facility

The burning of any type of waste is strictly prohibited. Offenders may receive fines of up to $2 million.

As you enter the Waste Transfer Station, please follow the designated recycling and disposal areas from left to right.
Solar Panels: Sort and put your solar panels on the pallets provided
Roof Tins: roofing iron (corrugated metal sheeting).
Timber & Pallets: Separate areas for untreated timber, treated timber, and pallets.
Soft Construction and Demolition Materials: Plasterboard (gyprock), non-asbestos cement sheeting and other soft construction materials.
Hard Construction and Demolition Materials: Concrete, bricks, stones, ceramic bathroom fixtures (such as toilets, sinks and basins), tiles, and other masonry materials.
Palm Fronds & Logs: Large green waste, including palm fronds, tree trunks and large logs, must be placed in a separate designated area.
Small Branches: small branches, garden pruning. This separation is important because Council's green waste shredder is designed to process only small branches and garden prunings. Palm fronds and large logs cannot be processed by this equipment and therefore must be managed separately.
Mulch: Mulch can self-combust if stored in large piles, so it needs to be in a different bay. As organic material decomposes, microorganisms generate heat. If this heat cannot escape, the temperature inside the pile can continue to rise until it reaches the point where the material ignites without any external flame or spark.
Clean Fill (Dirt): Clean soil and dirt only. No rocks, bricks or concrete.
Domestic Cardboard: On the left side, there are 2 x 3000 L. bin for Domestic cardboard.
Commercial Cardboard: It should be placed in the two skip bins on the right-hand side of the bridge.
Please remove all plastic, tape and polystyrene and flattened your cardboard boxes.
General Waste: This disposal area is located at the top of the bridge. Once you drive onto the bridge, you will find three skip bins on your left for general waste.
Please place all general waste directly into the skip bins and do not leave any waste on the bridge.
Please use the designated areas for each material to help maximise recycling and resource recovery while keeping the facility safe and efficient.
