The Barcaldine region currently operates two landfill sites.
The current landfill has served the community for many years and is now approaching the end of its operational life.
To protect valuable landfill space, Council is asking residents and businesses to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill by sorting recyclable and reusable materials before disposal.
Every load sorted before arriving at the Waste Transfer Station helps extend landfill life and recover valuable resources.
A new engineered landfill has been constructed and will progressively become the region's primary landfill facility.
This modern facility will operate alongside the new BORRC and support a more sustainable approach to waste management.
Barcaldine Regional Council advises residents that the right-side entrance area of the Waste Transfer Station is partially closed while improvement works are underway.
These works form part of a project to upgrade the Waste Transfer Station, improving safety, cleanliness and efficiency for the community.
Council crews are currently working to improve the right-hand operational area of the site, including:
• Levelling the ground to remove standing water and puddles
• Improving drainage and site access
• Installing signage and traffic guidance
• Preparing the area for improved waste separation
Only the left-hand side of the site is currently accessible
The right-hand side is closed
Residents are asked to follow all temporary signage when using the facility
The facility remains open 24/7
Council will continue to provide updates over the coming months, including community information and guidance on how to correctly sort waste under the new system.
The burning of any type of waste is strictly prohibited. Offenders may receive fines of up to $2 million.

As you enter the Waste Transfer Station, please follow the designated recycling and disposal areas from left to right.
On the left side, there are 2 x 3000 L. bin for Domestic cardboard. Please flattened and keep it clean or plastic or other packaging components like polystyrene
Commercial cardboard should be placed in the two skip bins on the right-hand side of the bridge.
Remove all plastic, tape and polystyrene before recycling. Dispose of contaminants in the General Waste bin.

Large green waste, including palm fronds, tree trunks and large logs, must be placed in a separate designated area from small branches, garden prunings and mulch material. This separation is important because Council's green waste shredder is designed to process only small branches and garden prunings. Palm fronds and large logs cannot be processed by this equipment and therefore must be managed separately.
