Tyres

The best tyre is the one that is never generated.

Before bringing tyres to the Waste Transfer Station, residents are encouraged to consider whether they can be safely reused at home or on their property.

At the Waste Transfer Station, tyres must be separated and stacked in the designated areas according to size:

  • Small tyres (motorcycles, wheelbarrows, etc.)
  • Cars and 4WD tyres
  • Truck tyres

Tyres are a valuable resource and can be reused in many practical ways before recycling becomes necessary. Examples include:

  • Garden planters and raised garden beds
  • Livestock feeders and water trough surrounds
  • Fence protection and barriers
  • Erosion control structures
  • Landscaping features
  • Playground and recreational applications
  • Road construction and civil works using tyre-derived products
  • Retaining walls and embankment stabilisation
  • Decorative garden and household projects

Many residents have successfully reused tyres as planters, animal feeders, protective barriers, and farm infrastructure. Creative reuse extends the life of the material and reduces disposal costs. Where possible, tyres should be reused first, recycled second, and disposed of only as a last resort.

Burning tyres is strictly prohibited.

Tyre fires produce highly toxic smoke and contaminants that can affect human health, livestock, soil, water, and air quality. Tyres must never be burned at home, on farms, or at any Council facility.

By reducing, reusing, and recycling tyres, residents can help extend the life of Council's waste facilities, reduce costs, and support a cleaner environment for future generations.
