E-WASTE RECYCLING COMING TO BARCALDINE RECYCLING HUBS ♻️
Barcaldine Regional Council is making it easier for residents to recycle unwanted electronic items responsibly through our expanding Recycling Hubs, located within Council facilities across the region.
From August 2026, residents will be able to drop off selected electronic waste (e-waste) free of charge for specialist recycling and resource recovery.
Accepted items include:
✅ Televisions
✅ Computer monitors
✅ Desktop computers
✅ Laptops
✅ Keyboards
✅ Computer mice
✅ Printers (where accepted)
✅ Cables and chargers
✅ Modems and routers
✅ Hard drives
✅ Speakers
✅ Small computer peripherals and accessories
Why recycle e-waste?
Electronic devices contain valuable materials that can be recovered and reused, including:
- copper
- aluminium
- steel
- gold
- silver
- palladium
- plastics
- glass
- circuit board components
These materials can be recovered through specialist recycling processes and used in the manufacture of new electronic products, industrial components, construction materials, and other valuable applications.
Recycling e-waste helps reduce the need for mining virgin materials, saves energy, and prevents hazardous substances from entering landfill.
Important – Please Prepare Your E-Waste
Before dropping off your items, please:
✅ Remove personal data from computers, laptops, hard drives, and devices
✅ Remove batteries where practical (batteries should be recycled separately)
✅ Keep equipment as intact as possible
✅ Place items carefully in designated collection areas
Please do NOT include:
❌ General household waste
❌ Loose batteries
❌ Light globes
❌ Smoke alarms
❌ Gas bottles
❌ Hazardous chemicals
❌ Large whitegoods unless separately accepted
Materials collected through this service will be transported to specialist recycling facilities where components are safely dismantled, sorted, and processed for recovery.
For detailed information about accepted materials, please refer to your local Recycling Hub or contact Waste@barc.qld.gov.au
