It’s Time to Clean Up Your Property – Scrap Metal Drop-Off Campaign
IT’S TIME TO CLEAN UP YOUR PROPERTY! ♻️
Barcaldine Regional Council is inviting residents and landowners across the region to take part in a Scrap Metal Clean-Up Campaign.
Do you have old machinery parts, damaged fencing, abandoned metal equipment, scrap steel, roofing iron, pipes, or unwanted metal materials sitting around your property?
Now is the time to clean it up and bring it in.
As part of Council’s ongoing commitment to cleaner communities, better waste management, and resource recovery, residents are encouraged to bring scrap metal to their nearest
- Alpha
- Jericho
- Barcaldine
- Aramac
- Muttaburra
Council will consolidate the scrap metal at each Waste Transfer Station, and SIMS Metal is expected to collect, compact, and remove these stockpiles during the regional collection program planned for July-August 2026.
What should residents do?
Residents are encouraged to:
✅ Clean up scrap metal from their properties
✅ Bring unwanted metal materials to their nearest Waste Transfer Station
✅ Separate materials where possible
✅ Remove non-metal components before drop-off where practical
For example, if you are bringing an old fridge or appliance, please remove non-metal parts such as glass, plastic, rubber, timber, or loose rubbish where safe and practical to do so.
This helps ensure the scrap metal can be collected and recycled as efficiently as possible.
Please do not mix scrap metal with general waste
To support recycling and reduce contamination, please keep scrap metal separate from:
- general household waste
- tyres
- batteries
- gas bottles
- asbestos-containing materials
- chemicals
- timber
- plastic
- glass
If materials are mixed or contaminated, they may not be suitable for recycling.
Why get involved?
By participating, you help:
✅ Clean up rural properties and town areas
✅ Reduce waste going to landfill
✅ Recover valuable materials for recycling
✅ Improve safety and amenity across our region
✅ Support smarter circular economy outcomes for western Queensland
Let’s turn waste into resources and clean up our region together.
