NEW RECYCLING HUB SERVICES COMING JULY 2026 ♻️

Barcaldine Regional Council is making recycling easier for residents by expanding the services available through our Recycling Hubs, located within Council facilities across the region.

From July 2026, residents will be able to drop off selected everyday problem wastes free of charge, including:

Printer cartridges and toner cartridges
Old mobile phones
Mobile phone batteries and accessories
Tool rechargeable batteries

These materials should never be placed in general waste bins, as they contain valuable resources that can be recovered and reused through specialised recycling programs.

Printer Cartridge Recycling

In partnership with Close the Loop, Australia’s leading print consumables recycling program, residents will be able to recycle used printer cartridges, toner bottles, drum units, and other eligible print consumables. Close the Loop recovers plastics, metals, and residual toner from these products, transforming recovered materials into new products, including sustainable road materials such as TonerPlas®.

Mobile Phone Recycling

Old mobile phones may be small, but they contain highly valuable materials including:

  • gold
  • silver
  • copper
  • aluminium
  • cobalt
  • nickel
  • lithium
  • rare earth elements
  • plastics and glass

Recovering these materials reduces the need for mining new raw resources, saves energy, and prevents hazardous materials from ending up in landfill.

Why This Matters

Many electronic products contain finite resources that are difficult and energy-intensive to extract. Recycling helps:

✅ reduce landfill waste
✅ recover valuable materials
✅ reduce environmental impacts from mining
✅ support Australia’s circular economy
✅ keep hazardous materials out of the environment

Before You Drop Off

Please:

  • remove personal data from mobile phones
  • remove SIM cards and memory cards
  • only place accepted materials in the designated recycling bins
  • do not place general waste, damaged hazardous items, or large e-waste in these collection points

Small items. Big environmental impact. Let’s recycle smarter together.
