Barcaldine Regional Council advises residents that the right-side entrance area of the Waste Transfer Station is partially closed while improvement works are underway. These works form part of a project to upgrade the Waste Transfer Station, improving safety, cleanliness and efficiency for the community.

Phase 1 – Current Works

Council crews are currently working to improve the right-hand operational area of the site, including:

  • Levelling the ground to remove standing water and puddles
  • Improving drainage and site access
  • Installing signage and traffic guidance
  • Preparing the area for improved waste separation

During this phase, waste disposal operations will continue in:

  • The left-side operational area (south)
  • The bridge/container area

Residents are asked to follow all temporary signage and staff directions when using the facility.

Phase 2 – Upcoming Improvements (from June)

Further upgrades will take place in the coming months, including:

  • Improved waste separation at the source
  • Designated areas for different materials and recyclables

These improvements aim to reduce landfill waste and allow valuable resources to be recovered rather than disposed of.

More Information

Council will continue to provide updates over the coming months, including community information and guidance on how to correctly sort waste under the new system
