Proposed Barcaldine Region Planning Scheme

Barcaldine Regional Council is pleased to advise that the proposed Barcaldine Region Planning Scheme, incorporating the proposed planning scheme policy as Schedule 5, has been prepared and is now on public display. The community and stakeholders are encouraged to review the document.

The purpose of the proposed planning scheme and planning scheme policy is to shape and manage development in the Barcaldine Region for the next 10 to 20 years. This proposed new planning scheme will be the first to regulate and facilitate development across the entire Barcaldine Region in a single document. It includes:

  • contemporary zoning, which may change how proposed development is authorised and assessed for particular land;
  • new and changed overlays, including for flooding risks.

The proposed planning scheme (including mapping), the planning scheme policy and supporting documents can be viewed:

Interested parties may also purchase a copy of the documents in addition to inspection.

Any person can make a written submission about any aspect of the proposed planning scheme during the public consultation period. The public consultation period is from Monday 5 September 2022 up to and including Tuesday 8 November 2022.

Submissions must be made in writing or by email. Properly made submissions must:

  • state the name and residential or business address of each submitter; and
  • state the grounds of the submission, and the facts and circumstances relied on to support the grounds; and
  • state one postal or electronic address for service relating to the submission for each submitter; and
  • be signed by each person making the submission, however signatures are not required for email (electronic) submissions; and
  • be made to Barcaldine Regional Council and be received on or before Tuesday 8 November 2022.
