2017 GARDEN COMPETITION WINNERS
2017 Garden Competition Winners proudly brought to you by Barcaldine Regional Council.
Regional winner - James Walker, Barcaldine
The judges’ comments on James garden is James presented a large magnificent rural garden which was cool, inviting and well irrigated.
An impressive driveway guided visitors to enter the garden and to walk up the path to the entrance of the homestead.
One of the many eye-catching features of the garden is the large substantial duck pond filled with water lily, iris, goldfish and blue claw.
Their elevated memorial garden is restful and reflective and planted with golden Duranta and variety of tropical foliage.
Behind the Memorial garden is a rather interesting flowing bore-head fountain contained in a circular cement/ripple iron tank. A row of palms and shrubs leads you away from the flowing bore-head to the orchid and olive grove which is productive and healthy.
Beyond the olive grove is a fantastic camp-fire site complete with bush logs and rocks. A great place to pop the esky on, is a table James put together himself and this feature is a unique piece of bush carpentry!
The entire space is leafy, shady and overflowing with points of interest including a nice lawn, mature trees, shrubs an archways draped in creepers – along with thoughtful design in landscaping with bus rocks and paving throughout the garden.
