Grey Nomad Project
Grey Nomads! Sun Seekers! Volunteers!
Grey Nomads, Sun Seekers, and all volunteers are invited to participate in our local volunteer projects. Our Grey Nomad Action Group can link you with an appropriate project or activity that coincides with your visit. Their role is to develop and manage the process whereby Grey Nomads and other volunteers can participate in local community projects, for the benefit of the community and participants.
In 2007 we have a number of activities planned requiring an array of skills and interests. We would welcome input and a helping hand to:
Present a diversified range of careers to our High School Students at a Career Market.
The basis of the careers market will be grey nomads from all walks of life sharing the knowledge they have accumulated during their working lives with regional school students. As there is such an array of work experiences to be shared, students would gain an appreciation of what it is really like to work in different industries, especially businesses not known in this area.
It is envisaged that individuals or groups would give presentations pertinent to their area of expertise and represent the realities of working in that sector. The presentations are to be directed mainly at upper secondary school students.
Participate in developing Lagoon Creek
Locals and Council are working together to continue developing our local creek, Lagoon Creek. Activities in 2007 include: tree plantings, bird watching, extending pathways, weeding, installing interpretive signage and recreational facilities.
Assist with displays and maintenance at the Australian Workers Heritage Centre
The Australian Workers Heritage Centre is continually changing as new displays are installed and old displays and the grounds require attention and reinvigorating. Activities at the Centre include: gardening, painting, maintaining displays, cataloguing and recording display items, the new Emergency Service display and assisting office staff.
