Who is eligible for a HACC service?
HACC services are for people who need help to continue living at home in the community because:

  • They are frail older people who have difficulty with everyday tasks, such as showering, getting dressed or doing housework, OR
  • They are a younger person with a moderate to severe disability, AND
  • They are at risk of having to go into a nursing home or aged people’s hostel.
  • HACC services are also available for people who are caring for a frail older person or someone with a disability.

Services Available:

  • Domestic Assistance: assistance with domestic duties, including cleaning, dishwashing, washing clothes and ironing, shopping and bill paying. (Fees apply)
  • Social Support: friendly visiting services, letter writing, shopping, bill paying and banking when the worker is accompanied by the client.
  • Nursing Care: is provided by a registered Nurse in your home, blood pressure and medication monitoring, wound management. (Fees apply for wound dressings).
  • Personal Care: assistance with daily self-care tasks, such as eating, bathing, toileting, dressing, grooming, getting in and out of bed, moving about the house.
  • Transport: is available for in town appointments etc, no fee is charged for this service, donations are gratefully accepted.
  • Transport is available for out of town medical appointments, staff availability permitting. (A fee is charged for this service).
  • Centre Based Day Care: day respite and group activities in the centre, and may include day trips away from the centre.

Barcaldine Home and Community Care
Central & Far West HACC Home Modifications Service

  • Funded by Dept of Housing & Qld Health
  • Auspiced by Barcaldine Shire Council
  • The aim of the service is to assist those frail aged and younger disabled persons who wish to remain in their homes for as long as possible, with access to and within the home preventing long term residential care into hostels, nursing homes or other similar institutions.

Service provides:

  • Information and assessment
  • Management & financial assistance with home modifications such as ramps and bathroom adaptions
  • Assistance in obtaining services of Occupational Therapist
  • Assistance with employing qualified tradespersons
  • Covering the Shires of Aramac, Barcaldine, Blackall, Barcoo, Boulia, Diamantina, Ilfracombe, Isisford, Jericho, Longreach, Tambo and Winton.
